Pet transport from UK to Croatia and Croatia to UK. PetVoyageUK provides door-to-door service to Zagreb, Split, Dubrovnik, and all Croatian cities via Eurotunnel. Whether you're relocating to the stunning Adriatic coast, retiring in the sun, or joining family, we ensure your pet travels safely and comfortably on this longer European journey.
Pet Transport to Zagreb
Zagreb, Croatia's capital, is our primary Croatian destination. The journey is substantial but we break it into manageable segments with an overnight stop in Germany or Austria.
Journey Overview
- Distance: Approximately 1,100 miles from Folkestone
- Duration: 2 days with overnight stop
- Route: Folkestone → Calais → Germany → Austria → Slovenia → Zagreb
- Overnight: Pet-friendly accommodation in Munich or Vienna area
Pet Transport to the Dalmatian Coast
The Dalmatian Coast is increasingly popular with British expats and holidaymakers. We transport pets to:
- Split: Croatia's second city, gateway to the islands
- Dubrovnik: The famous walled city, further south
- Zadar: Historic city with Roman ruins and modern amenities
- Šibenik: UNESCO heritage sites and national parks nearby
- Pula: Istrian peninsula with Roman amphitheatre
Coastal destinations add extra driving time but reward you with stunning scenery and Mediterranean lifestyle.
Croatia Pet Travel Requirements
Croatia is an EU member state with standard pet travel requirements:
- Microchip: ISO 15-digit compliant chip (most UK pets already have this)
- Rabies vaccination: Must be at least 21 days old at time of travel
- Animal Health Certificate: Issued by an Official Veterinarian within 10 days of travel. Valid for up to 6 months for onward EU travel and return to GB
- Tapeworm treatment: For dogs only, administered 1-5 days before UK entry (for return journeys)
We check all documentation before departure and handle all border crossings.

Why We Include an Overnight Stop
The journey to Croatia is over 1,100 miles. While we could drive straight through, an overnight stop is much better for your pet. They get a proper rest, a good walk, and arrive at their destination refreshed rather than exhausted. Most pets travel more calmly on day two after a proper night's sleep.

Planning a Long-Distance Journey: What to Expect
Croatia is one of the longer journeys we run, and it's worth understanding how a multi-day trip actually unfolds.
Day One: UK to the Overnight Stop
Collection happens at your UK address, followed by the drive to Folkestone, Pet Reception document checks, and the Eurotunnel crossing to Calais. From there we head south-east through France and into Germany, with regular 2-3 hourly breaks for water, toileting, and a leg-stretch, aiming to reach the Germany/Austria overnight stop with enough daylight left for a proper evening walk before your pet settles for the night.
Day Two: Overnight Stop to Zagreb or the Coast
After breakfast and a morning walk, day two continues through Austria and Slovenia into Croatia. Coastal destinations such as Split or Dubrovnik add further driving time beyond Zagreb, so for these we sometimes discuss a second short overnight depending on your pet's needs and the exact delivery address.
Why Two Days Beats One Long Push
Some operators offer to drive the whole distance in one continuous run. We don't recommend this for a journey of this length — a single very long push, even with breaks, is exhausting for any animal, and driver fatigue becomes a genuine safety concern over that many hours behind the wheel. Splitting the journey means your pet arrives in Croatia rested rather than depleted.
Choosing Between Driving, Flying, and Professional Ground Transport
Owners moving to Croatia typically weigh up three options.
Driving it yourself
Possible if you have the time, a suitable vehicle, and are comfortable navigating several countries' worth of motorway signage, tolls, and fuel stops with a pet in the back. You'll need to plan your own overnight stop and verify every document yourself.
Flying
Airlines do fly pets to Zagreb and Split, but it means cargo-hold or hold-adjacent travel for larger dogs, a kennel-only environment during transit, and handling by multiple airport staff across departure and arrival.
Professional door-to-door ground transport
This is what we specialise in for exactly this reason: over a journey this long, the advantages of a single familiar driver, a climate-controlled vehicle, and a properly planned overnight rest compound. Your pet never changes hands and never enters a cargo hold. It costs more than the DIY option and needs booking further ahead than a short Channel-hop journey, but for a multi-country relocation it removes the largest sources of stress for both pet and owner.
