The London to Rome pet transport corridor is one of the longest mainland European routes we operate, covering roughly 1,850 km through four countries: England, France, Switzerland (or alternatively the French Alps), and Italy. We collect from any London address — Greater London, the M25 corridor, or surrounding home counties — and head straight to Folkestone for the Eurotunnel crossing. The 35-minute Le Shuttle journey is the calmest leg of the trip for your pet, who stays in the vehicle throughout.
Once in Calais, we drive south through France via Reims, Dijon and Beaune. Depending on the season, we choose between the Swiss route through Basel and the Gotthard road tunnel, or the French Alps via Chambéry and the Mont Blanc tunnel into Aosta. The Swiss route is typically faster in summer, while the French route avoids the Swiss vignette and works well in milder months. Either way, we cross into Italy and continue down the Autostrada del Sole through Milan, Florence and finally into Rome.
Because of the distance and altitude crossing the Alps, we always include an overnight rest stop — typically in eastern France or Switzerland — where your pet gets a proper meal, exercise, and a calm sleep in a pet-friendly hotel. Italian customs do not routinely stop EU-bound vehicles for pet checks, but we carry the full Animal Health Certificate documentation issued in the UK within 10 days of departure, plus rabies and microchip records.
In Rome we deliver door-to-door anywhere in the metropolitan area, from the historic centre and Trastevere to the Aurelia suburbs, EUR, Ostia and the wider Lazio region. We can also continue onward to Tivoli, Frascati or Civitavecchia. For owners moving to Tuscany or southern Italy, we coordinate the final leg by road from Rome the same week. Summer heat is a real consideration on this corridor, so for July-August transport we depart in the early morning and use Alpine routes that stay above 800m to keep cabin temperatures manageable for your pet.

London to Rome pet taxi: common questions
How long does it take to drive a dog from London to Rome?
The full London to Rome pet transport journey takes around 24-28 hours of driving, which we split across two days with an overnight stop in France or Switzerland. This keeps your pet rested rather than exhausted.
What documents does my pet need to enter Italy from the UK?
Your pet needs a microchip, a valid rabies vaccination (at least 21 days old), and a UK Animal Health Certificate (AHC) issued within 10 days of departure. Italy accepts the same documentation as the rest of the EU. We coordinate the AHC timing with your vet.
Is it better to fly or drive a pet from London to Rome?
For most pets, ground transport is far less stressful than flying. Driving avoids cargo holds, pressurised cabins, and airport handling. Your pet stays in a familiar climate-controlled vehicle with a single driver they get used to. Italy also has restrictive airline rules for snub-nosed breeds, which doesn't apply on the road.
How much does it cost to transport a pet from London to Rome?
Pet transport from London to Rome starts from £2,635 for a single pet, door-to-door, including French and Italian motorway tolls and an overnight stop. The Eurotunnel ticket is not included - you pay for it separately, or we can book it for you at no extra cost. Larger animals, multiple pets, or specific delivery windows may adjust the price.
Do you deliver outside central Rome?
Yes — we deliver anywhere in Rome and surrounding regions including Lazio, Tivoli, Ostia, and the wider metropolitan area. Onward delivery to Tuscany, Naples, or southern Italy can be arranged.
