Why does a London to Belfast pet transport need a ferry if Belfast is in the UK?

Northern Ireland is part of the United Kingdom, but it’s on the island of Ireland, physically separated from Great Britain by the Irish Sea. There’s no tunnel or land bridge, so any door-to-door trip has to cross by ferry - we use the Cairnryan-Belfast or Liverpool-Belfast Stena Line route depending on which is shorter for your specific addresses.

Does my pet need any special documents to travel from London to Belfast?

No - this is a domestic move within the UK, so there’s no Animal Health Certificate, rabies titer, or customs paperwork required, unlike our routes to mainland Europe. Your pet just needs their normal microchip and any documents your own vet already keeps.

Around 7 hours of driving plus the ferry crossing itself (roughly 2 hours 15 minutes on the Cairnryan route), so plan for most of a day door-to-door. We build in comfort breaks on the drive to the port.

Your pet stays in the vehicle on the car deck for the crossing, with the driver checking in throughout - the same door-to-door principle we use everywhere else, just with a ferry instead of the Eurotunnel for this particular route.
